May-Bday-Tasting Notes
- 1976 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année - France, Champagne (5/12/2010)
exactly what i was hoping for. powerful still, with great acidity. nutty sherry quality with some carmelized fruit. suprisingly lively, holds up to food. perfect birth year wine. (95 points)

- 2009 Copain Tous Ensemble Rosé - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (5/31/2010)
pretty with a neat watermelon note (90 points)

- 2007 Copain Syrah Tous Ensemble - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (5/31/2010)
very popular, smooth dark fruit. integrated tannins. good spice. (87 points)

- 2005 Cigliuti Barbera d'Alba Serraboella - Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba (5/31/2010)
good medium weight food friendly wine (88 points)

- 1995 Henriot Champagne Cuvée des Enchanteleurs Brut - France, Champagne (5/4/2010)
when i got this in 2008, i said i wanted to see what it did in 5yrs. didn't quite make it that far. still very fresh, minerally, more apple acid than citrus. blossomy. very much like a good chablis with some chalkiness blending with the fruit. suprisingly not super dry though either. a great champagne for lovers of all styles. (91 points)

- 1998 Château Gruaud Larose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (5/4/2010)
lovely secondaries of leather, and ground brown spice. perfect age, and balanced on a pin head, fruit is transparent yet holds the spice and earth together for an enjoyable complex almost tea like drink with out the astringency ,skim milk added. i think this is a solid middle weight body and not thin at all. (89 points)

- 2001 Ferdinando Principiano Barolo Boscareto - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (5/2/2010)
ruby tawny color . at first the only thing noticable is wood. a bit raw, not creamy, not highly toasted. maybe slovanian??? nose is light and pretty dried potporri. tight at first, than expolded into a pure coffee ,tarry, and high toned cherry. body is great... medium light but with tannin and a structure. good integration once it opened up. i would say it's at peak and to drink now if you like a good fruit quality in your wine. (89 points)
