- 2002 Hospices de Beaune Pommard Cuvée Billardet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard (10/26/2010)
seemed quite closed and simple. medium soft red fruit, with little verve or interest. (87 points)
- N.V. Serge Mathieu Champagne Cuvée Tradition Blanc de Noirs Brut - France, Champagne (10/22/2010)
not a huge amount of red fruit showing but a good amount of body. good structure actually, almost a drying finish with the crisp llittle bubbles. more about texture and weight that aromas or flovors-fruits at least. but good dry style. enjoyable (89 points)
- 1980 Mas de Daumas Gassac Vin de Pays de l'Hérault - France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault (10/22/2010)
Bought from auction. Was well stored, but was begining to soak through the cork. I was worried, but, but the wine had a ruby plum color with almost no bricking. some cloudiness more due to the fact that i decanted without a light and poured too far into the bottle. the nose was a bit dumb, a bit of spice, some red fruit, an old cracked leather. The mouth was still very much alive, plenty of soft fruit, tobacco, cedar, altough much lighter weight than younger vintages of this wine I've had. The color would mislead one on the texture and mouthfeel, which is medium at best. There was nothing exceptional or powerful about this wine, except it's staying power at 30 years. A good dinner claret at a fraction af aged bordeaux's price. (88 points)
